Heart Listener

Listens through your phone's microphone for the low thump of a heartbeat, and estimates a rate.

Entertainment only. This is not a medical device and not a fetal doppler — a real doppler uses ultrasound, which a phone microphone cannot produce or hear.

It cannot tell you your baby is okay. If you notice reduced movement, contact your midwife or maternity unit straight away.

What it can and can't do

Adult and child modes usually work — you can check them against your own pulse and a clock.

Fetal mode is a novelty. Fetal heart sounds are much quieter than the mother's own pulse, and a doubled adult pulse of 60 lands at 120 — right in the middle of the fetal range. A reading there is not evidence of anything.
